3 nights Rome 4 nights Positano (Amalfi coast) 4 nights Florence
Discover Bella Italia on this special ‘girls’ trip to Italy. We will discover the rich history of the Vatican and the Roman Empire, sip an aperitivo in the piazza of a Tuscan hill town, walk along ancient cobbled stone streets, window shop in the most chic of places, visit markets and galleries, taste the regional cuisine and wine and still have enough time to relax and drink in the atmosphere. This tour for women will take us to the stunning and dramatic Amalfi coast where we will enjoy the scenic beauty that makes this a UNESCO world heritage site – and travel to the iconic Isle of Capri. We will venture out to take the ‘Walk of the Gods’ above Positano, gaze in awe at the magnificent David in Florence and walk the streets of Pompeii. This tour is designed just for women, whether travelling as a solo traveller, with another girlfriend, sisters or mother and daughter - new friends are just around the corner. Along the way we will walk, talk, listen, laugh, shop and taste the delights of Italy. Our small group tour for women of up to 12 ensures that we can travel through Italy, without the disadvantages of a larger group - we can visit that tiny family run restaurant and move around as the Italians do.
We meet in the afternoon at our wonderful hotel, just a skip from the Pantheon and right in the historical heart of Rome. Orientation tour before meeting for an ‘aperitivo’ on the delightful roof top bar of our hotel giving spectacular views over ancient Rome. Our ’special’ dinner tonight is an atmospheric small restaurant serving the best Rome specialties. Dinner and wine included.
In the morning we will visit the Vatican and discover the priceless treasures of the Vatican museums and wonder at the genius of Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel – with an expert Vatican guide, of course. In the afternoon, you might decide to further explore Vatican city or take in the other wonderful attractions in the area. Breakfast included
We start our day with a visit to the Piazza Campo de’ Fiori, home to a lively fruit and vegetable market where we can sample some delicious panino from one of Rome’s famous bakeries Antico Forno. Today we visit the Colosseum, built in 72 AD to learn of its bloody and colourful history along with the Forum, Capitoline Hill and Venice Square. In the afternoon we might wander along the Via Del Corso for some window shopping and the obligatory gelati. Breakfast included
We say goodbye to the eternal city and travel to Naples to discover the treasures of Pompeii at the archaeological museum. After lunch at a pizzeria in Napoli we travel to Pompeii, where we will have our expert guide to make this ancient city come alive revealing the secrets behind the time capsule, left behind after the eruption of Mt Vesuvius. We can peek into homes and shops and also read graffiti telling us so much of the daily life. We travel to our next adventure, the beautiful Positano where, perched high above the water, the houses seem to cling to the cliffs and have been the subject of a thousand of postcards. Our lovely hotel has stunning views of the coastline and is right in the centre. Breakfast and lunch included
For the more active among us, this morning we venture out above Positano to take the ‘Walk of the Gods’ where magnificent views of the Bay of Naples are possible and where we discover tiny villages - almost like walking back in time. Our local and knowledgeable adventure guide will give us the history and background and will take us to his favourite local restaurant, the best traditional cuisine. For the not so active, Positano is filled with quaint shops and many galleries , including sandal makers, which are a pleasure to explore. Breakfast included
Our high speed ferry will take us to the breathtaking Island of Capri, known for the brilliant colours of the Blue Grotto. Here we will discover the island and the many wonderful and colourful shops and coffee houses. For the more active among us we might take a walk through the back lanes to Villa Jovis, the villa of Tiberius. Breakfast and dinner included
Today we have the opportunity to travel to Amalfi to wander the streets of this lovely town and visit the impressive duomo, and then travel on to Ravello where the best views of the coast can be enjoyed. Our dinner tonight is definitely ’special’ - we will be picked up by boat to journey to our restaurant ’La Gravitella’ along the coast for the best seafood in Amalfi. The best way to travel! Breakfast and dinner included
We travel by fast train to our next exciting destination, and our favourite, Florence. After checking into our hotel we will take an orientation walk of the city before heading off to our wonderful outdoor restaurant where the speciality of the house has people coming back time again. After dinner, a walk over the Ponte Vecchio with a gelati to savour this beautiful city at night. Breakfast and dinner included
This morning we take an orientation tour, with an expert guide, and will visit one of the best galleries in Italy, the Uffizi – the home of Renaissance art. The lives, intrigue and art will be brought to life with the help of our charming guide. In the afternoon, we might hit the shops of San Lorenzo market or find that perfect leather coat, or bag, at the leather school or even do some wine and cheese tasting in the food market. Today we also take part in an informative cooking class at one of Florence’s authentic Tuscan restaurants, with the head chef! This will definitely be ’hands on’, lots of fun and will have us cooking like an Italian in no time...well almost. Breakfast and lunch included
Today we travel south to Siena, home of the Palio. We will meander through the cobbled stone streets to the centre, the Il Campo where the fan like square has been the background to many movies and photographs. Then onto San Gimignano, and its magnificent towers, the quintessential Tuscan hill town. After lunch we will venture to the highest point giving us spectacular views of the Val d’Elsa and wander through the quaint shops maybe looking for that perfect ceramic plate or chic Italian bag. We will taste the wonderful white wine of the area, the Vernaccia, or maybe sample the delicacy, cinghale, wild boar. Breakfast and lunch included
For the active among us, we will walk to Piazzale Michelangelo to get the best views of Florence and take our time to wander the streets on the ‘other’ side of the Arno River, Oltrarno. It is here where the artisans lived, and some still have their workshops, where we can see ancient trades undertaken. Today we will have the best focaccia in Florence washed down with a glass of Chianti from the owners’ own vineyard. In the afternoon, we will have tickets to see David at the Accademia gallery – who would come to Florence and miss this? Our last night in Florence and we will have an aperitivo before we experience yet another great traditional Tuscan meal to reminisce over our exciting Italian holiday. Breakfast and dinner and wine included
Our tour finishes this morning. Goodbye to wonderful Florence ........or extend your tour to Venice!
Venice is just 3 ½ hours away by train or visit cosmopolitan Milan, quaint Lucca or the Italian Riviera, Cinque Terre, the five villages. We can help with advice and arrangements.
Our itineraries are carefully planned and well thought out but touring Italy can sometimes offer wonderful surprises. The magic of travelling in such a small group allows us to cater for this spontaneity and it is sometimes these unplanned occurrences that can be the most memorable. The rich tapestry of experiences and the characters you meet along the way will make this tour of Italy something special.
