Finally, we will visit the church of Santa Croce, which contains the tomb of Michelangelo.

In Florence’s cathedral, the Duomo, we will marvel at the inspiring dome, the work of Filippo Brunelleschi. A massive structure, it was a huge headache to the original architects until Brunelleschi came along over 100 years later, it was said that he was “a genius sent down by heaven to bring new form to an architecture that had gone astray”. You will learn of his genius and how this simple goldsmith left a legacy that would be admired for centuries.

Florence has so much to offer and there will be ample to time to explore this magical city to satisfy everyone’s particular interests. You may wish to climb the Giotto’s bell tower to have a fantastic view of Florence, only 414 steps, or if not that energetic, just sit in one of the charming squares to enjoy an aperitivo or coffee, people watching is such a great pastime in Italy. Or….hit the San Lorenzo market where shopping is an art and the wonderfully stylish leather coats and scarves are screaming to be taken home.

Florence is much more than that though and has a charm capable of wooing all. It is small enough to walk comfortably and with enough history to sink a ship….from the beautiful dome of the Duomo to the Ponte Vecchio where window shopping is more than a pastime – this place is magic.
